About Wanda Mumm
Wanda’s career has taken her in many directions but the most rewarding is her strong interest in teaching art and as Director of Art Education for the Susan K Black Foundation. Wanda is authoring her second book geared toward art teachers. Her national arts program will bring art to schools throughout the United States. Wanda’s reputation and unique teaching style has lead to workshops throughout the US as well as selected cruise lines.
Her affiliation with the Susan K. Black Foundation has helped fuel Wanda’s passion for sharing and learning which also earned her the “Rose Award” as a special recognition exemplifying the goals of the SKB Foundation. She has been a guest juror for the Houston Museum of Fine Arts as well as numerous other art organizations. She is the past director of the Western Art Academy curriculum in Kerrville, Texas and has certified a staff of professional artists to deliver art programs.
Wanda believes each artist paints their version of what they see the world as in paint, showing their own colors, values, and forms that excite them. Being an artist has been an exciting and fulfilling career she has thoroughly enjoyed.
The Dancer – Hummingbird and Bougainvillea
$525
Oil on board
6″ x 8″
Hummingbirds come to our Montana house in the summer in droves. We feed them hummingbird solution everyday and often several times a day. We’ve become very fond of the little guys. We take delight when they bring their small fledglings to the feeders. Hummingbirds are one of my favorite birds to paint because of their lovely colors and activity. This piece shows a ruby throat at bougainvillea. They seem to fit right together for a painting.

Waterfowl have been one of my subject choices for many years and I spent much of my professional career depicting them. Canada geese and mergansers are often found in the company of each other in my part of northwest Montana and are often seen paddling around together. Sunsets are of particular interest to me because of the vibrant colors and subtle shifts in those colors. Evening is descending on this marsh as waterfowl gather for the evening in this painting.

In the Wake – Bufflehead

Bufflehead ducks have the nick name “little butter balls” because they are one of the smallest ducks. I find their endearing quality a fun subject to paint. These guys come to a small pond very close to my house in Montana where I enjoy sitting and watching them dive for food. In this painting the bufflehead paddles around at dusk getting in that last bite before night fall.

Cardinals are such a treat to see in the winter with their bright red plumage. When I lived in Minnesota we had several pairs of them. This particular female has more red on her than most and I always knew her and her off spring because of the coloring. In this piece, a cardinal pair perches on a snowy branch as the sun sets. Snowflakes gently fall as just a bit of warm light remains.
