OX WAGON

$5500 Sold

Oil on linen

18×14

This painting is titled OX WAGON, although I have chosen NOT to show the wagon. Of much more interest, to me, is the colorful handler and the powerful beasts under his control. I have added the flowers as a teasing snack … that the oxen will not be able to enjoy … for now at least. They did later. The handler is a close friend. He has so many interesting stories of the numerous ox teams & their personalities he’s trained over the years. I just had to get him on canvas.

AN INTIMACY WITH BIRDS

$5000

Oil on linen

11×15

This painting is my attempt, after researching the great painter of birds J.J. Audubon, to show him involved but not depicting any specific incident. There are so many interesting events in Audubon’s life that are worthy of being painted. Frankly, I was overwhelmed with ideas for paintings, but time did not permit. Maybe in the future?

ALMOST QUIET

$7000

Oil on linen

I enjoy painting snow scenes because they illustrate a total alteration of well known or familiar landscapes. A new blanket of white can reflect so many interesting colors. Colors that evoke a calm and silent newness to old places. Whenever I enjoy a walk through freshly fallen whiteness, I try to visualize how it might have looked 250 years previous. Mostly It’s trees would have been much larger perhaps, but maybe overall … basically akin to the wilderness that witnessed it’s Indigenous People, their Nations and their culture. A Quiet reflection on times past.

FULL MOON

$5000

Oil on linen

16×12

One of my ongoing attempts at painting nocturnes. This painting … my turquoise phase choice …at establishing a nightly mood. A mood of moonlight on a young man and his horse. A play of such lighting on white. It seems to give an eeriness or wonder. As … wonder why this fellow is out after dark with his horse? Did it escape and had to be found? Well, if so … it’s a positive painting with a successful conclusion.
