Chincoteague Nation Wildlife Refuge, Chincoteague, Virginia is a favorite birding spot. There is a long drive through various habitats for the many birds, animals and wild ponies that live there. In this painting the late afternoon sun glows through the reeds and rims the Egret looking for a last minute snack.

Out on a Limb

$650

Oil

3.75″ x 5.75″

This Great Blue Heron is resting on a particular fallen tree that I have painted a number of times. I enjoy painting Great Blues as they are so primitive in appearance. They nest along the James River so I am able to watch them grow into adults developing their long breast, back and head breeding plumage.

Rocky Shoreline

$600

Oil

3.75″ x 4.75″

I have watched Great Blue Herons from Canada to Florida, to California, and to Alaska. They are very adaptable to many conditions. This particular bird lives along the James River, Virginia near my home. There is a special location where the water flows from the freshwater reservoir into the James River that attracts the fish. Where there are fishes there are birds.
